Non-Fiction Editing Services
Meticulous editing for critical thinkers & changemakers
You have something to say and a voice that matters.
From memoir and manuals to literary criticism and academic research papers (not to mention one radical cookbook), I have experience supporting authors in the creation of non-fiction that is interested in living thoughtfully and shaping a better world.
I bring a passion for conscious and inclusive language, as well as an
inclination to think deeply and interrogate assumptions. I will always work collaboratively with you and establish a dialogue throughout the editing process.
Depending on what stage your manuscript is at, you may need one or more of the following services. If none of these feel right, bespoke options tailored to your needs are available—get in touch!
Substantive editing
This is a big-picture edit that offers guidance and feedback in terms of structure, content, flow, and clarity of your manuscript. Substantive editing may involve reorganizing content, resolving inconsistencies, and adding transitions to enhance the narrative flow.
Line and copy editing
Line edits are done at the sentence level and ensure that your words are effectively communicating what they intend to. This stage of editing considers word choice, punctuation and flow, authorial voice, and clarity of meaning. Copy edits are more technical, focusing on the nitty-gritty of spelling, grammar, usage, and consistency. Line and copy edits are sometimes able to be combined, depending on the project.
Conscious language review
Reading for conscious language is something that is included in every edit. However, if you feel that your manuscript is already in good shape in terms of substantive, line, and copy editing but would like it reviewed with an eye to conscious language, this service is available. Please note that this is not the same thing as authenticity reading, which assesses representation of experiences not your own.
